Becoming a Director

The Trust has been in existence since 2017 and now comprises 9 schools and 3,000 pupils. The Trust Board has overseen the initial period of development and is now entering a period of change with a number of vacancies arising as a result of existing directors stepping down and through the identification of skills/experience gaps.

We are looking for 2-4 directors, and the aim is for new directors to be appointed for 1 September 2022. The general time commitment for a Trust director would be four Trust Board meetings per year and 3-4 meetings of a specified sub-committee, plus preparation time.

The Academy Trust Handbook explains that it is the responsibility of Multi Academy Trust directors to focus on three core functions:
1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
2. Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils and the performance management of staff;
3. Overseeing and ensuring effective financial performance.

The new directors will be appointed on merit and will need to be able to demonstrate that they have the governance skills necessary to support the Board in achieving these objectives, in addition to the technical skills and life experiences that they will bring to the Board. Candidates should be practising Catholics and in good standing with the Church.

The Trust is particularly looking to add legal, environmental sustainability and risk management skills and experience. We are also very keen to add to the diversity of the Board to bring additional insights and experiences to our processes and to broaden our knowledge. Women and people from ethnic minority backgrounds are currently underrepresented on the board, and we would welcome nominations of all suitably skilled persons from all sections of our communities.

Although the focus is on identifying candidates with the above-mentioned skills and experiences who will increase diversity, we are keen to hear from any individuals interested in becoming a Trust Director or School Governor.

Nominations are requested by 17 June 2022 so that the interview process can be completed to allow for appointments to take place from 1 September 2022.
